Dental Anxiety Management Aurora

Don't Let Your Dental Anxiety Stop You From Receiving the Care You Deserve

Feeling nervous or anxious about going to the dentist is common. Whether due to a past experience, fear of discomfort, or general unease about dental procedures, dental anxiety can make it difficult for individuals to receive the dental care they need and deserve. At ABN Family Dental in Aurora, we offer a supportive and understanding approach to help manage dental anxiety so that patients can feel more at ease during their appointments.

Our Approach to Ensuring Patients Have an Anxiety-Free Dental Experience

At ABN Family Dental, we aim to make each visit as calm and comfortable as possible. Our team takes the time to listen to patients’ concerns and works with them to create a personalized plan that helps reduce stress and anxiety during treatment. Some of the ways we help manage dental anxiety include:

Open Communication

Many patients feel more comfortable when they understand what to expect. We explain procedures clearly, answer any questions and check in throughout the appointment to make sure the patient feels in control. Patients are encouraged to express their concerns before and during their visit.

Gentle and Supportive Environment

A relaxed and welcoming environment can make a big difference for patients dealing with dental anxiety. Our Aurora dental office is designed to be calm and low-stress, and we allow extra time for those who need a slower, more deliberate pace.

Sedation Dentistry Options

For patients who require additional support in managing their anxiety, our dental team is pleased to offer sedation options. These can be tailored to the level of anxiety you’re experiencing and the nature of the dental treatment you’re receiving.

More About Our Forms of Sedation

The level of sedation that is best for our dentist can determine you during your consultation.

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose. It takes effect quickly and helps patients feel calm and relaxed during treatment. One of the key benefits of nitrous oxide is that its effects wear off shortly after the mask is removed, allowing patients to resume normal activities the same day.
  • Oral Sedation (Medication): Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before the dental appointment. This type of sedation produces a deeper state of relaxation and is ideal for patients with moderate anxiety. While patients remain awake and responsive, they often feel drowsy and more at ease throughout the procedure. Because oral sedation can affect coordination and alertness, someone else will need to drive the patient to and from the appointment.
  • Intravenous (IV) Sedation: IV sedation provides a deeper level of sedation and is administered intravenously during the procedure. It is often recommended for patients with severe anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or those undergoing lengthy or complex treatments. Under IV sedation, patients are deeply relaxed and may have little or no memory of the procedure. As with oral sedation, patients will require transportation home afterward.
