Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Problems, Our Comprehensive Dental Services and More

Our dentist recommends visiting at least twice a year for regular checkups and cleanings. However, some people may need more frequent visits if they have gum disease, cavities, or other oral health issues.

Children should have their first dental visit by their first birthday or when their first tooth erupts. Early visits help prevent cavities, establish good oral hygiene habits, and ensure proper dental development. We strive to create a positive and welcoming dental experience for everyone, but particularly for young children. We understand it takes time to gain their trust; therefore, we approach them with gentleness, understanding, and calmness and try to explain things in ways that they will understand and find interesting.

Electric toothbrushes can be more effective at removing plaque and reducing gum disease, especially for people with difficulty brushing properly. However, a manual toothbrush can be just as effective if used correctly with proper technique. We can discuss what is best for your particular needs during your next appointment!

If you have a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water, floss gently to remove debris, and take over-the-counter pain relievers if needed. Then, please schedule an appointment with our dentist as soon as possible to determine the cause and get the right treatment.

Bad breath (referred to as halitosis) is often caused by poor oral hygiene, gum disease, dry mouth, or certain foods. To prevent it, brush and floss daily, stay hydrated, clean your tongue, and visit our dental team regularly.

Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the enamel of your teeth that develop into tiny holes. They form when bacteria in your mouth feed on sugars and produce acids that erode the tooth enamel. If left untreated, cavities can lead to tooth pain, infections, and even tooth loss.

If we detect cavities, we’ll fill them with white fillings – a tooth-coloured composite resin material that looks and feels completely natural.

Gum disease is an infection of the gums caused by plaque buildup. It starts with gingivitis, which causes red, swollen, and bleeding gums and can progress to periodontitis, leading to tooth loss. It’s important to remember to brush twice daily, floss regularly, and visit us for regular cleanings.

Invisalign treatment is popular amongst teens and adults who want a discreet way to straighten their teeth. If you have mild to moderate misalignment, gaps, overbites, underbites, and crowding, let’s discuss whether Invisalign treatment is right for you.

Professional teeth whitening at our Aurora dental office is the safest and most effective way to brighten your smile. Many patients report noticing a difference in their smile after just one one-hour visit. We also offer custom take-home whitening kits that are more effective and safer than over-the-counter whitening products.

They are usually removed between the ages of 17 and 25 if they cause pain, overcrowding, or become impacted (stuck under the gum) before they cause complications such as pain, crowding, impaction, or infection.
